{"id":390,"date":"2011-04-28T11:31:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T11:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/smallbizsurvival.com\/?p=390"},"modified":"2014-08-27T07:46:01","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T12:46:01","slug":"how-to-pack-main-street-for-big-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smallbizsurvival.com\/2011\/04\/how-to-pack-main-street-for-big-sale.html","title":{"rendered":"How to pack Main Street for a big sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>[My friend Gayle Machetta from Henryetta, Oklahoma, sent me the story of how one local merchant has created a sales event that packs hundreds of people into their downtown twice a year. &#8211;Becky]<\/i><\/p>\n<table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-AeOxZ8Gpidk\/TaxnaEj0tjI\/AAAAAAAABhs\/rBuExSZaRck\/s1600\/Burnetts+Spring+Sale+002.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-AeOxZ8Gpidk\/TaxnaEj0tjI\/AAAAAAAABhs\/rBuExSZaRck\/s320\/Burnetts+Spring+Sale+002.jpg\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Burnett Furniture getting ready for the big sale.<br \/>Photo by Gayle Machetta.\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Sending you an invite to come to Henryetta and see what happens on our Main St. two times a year. \u00a0 Our large home-town family owned furniture store (Burnett\u2019s) does a blow-out sale in April and November every year where the manufacturer\u2019s representatives actually attend and serve as sales staff on the showroom floor because there are literally hundreds of people who come to the 3-hour sale. \u00a0They line up outside the doors of the store for an hour before the doors open. \u00a0The dealer will close down this evening and cardboard up the windows until the night of the sale in order to re-price everything in the store. <\/p>\n<p>The other merchants in the same block \u00a0figured out awhile ago that this was a captive market for those few hours.\u00a0The Men&#8217;s store next door stays open (Bob&#8217;s Clothiers) and does a\u00a0tremendous business. \u00a0The Flower\/Gift shop and Jewelry store (Rheba&#8217;s\u00a0and Cave&#8217;s) also stay open until about 8 and do a good trade. \u00a0The\u00a0Burnett Hardware Store and Burnett Gift Store in the next block\u00a0participate in the sale and the hardware store also has manufacturer&#8217;s\u00a0representatives on hand to do special orders on lawn tractors, chippers,\u00a0tillers. \u00a0This year, there was even a church youth group that set up a\u00a0Hamburger cookout to raise money for their Relay for Life team and they\u00a0made several hundred dollars in a couple of hours on the light crowd. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a real phenomenon. \u00a0Reminds me of when our Main\u00a0Street was bustling like that every weekend and during the holiday\u00a0season.<\/p>\n<p><em>New to SmallBizSurvival.com?
