I met, in person, some online friends and made some new ones. After that conference, I started contacting a few people, drawing them in for a very business minded group. I was looking for people that were approximately my peers, not way ahead or way behind in knowledge. Everyone had to be unanimously approved by the other members, so we could start with a cohesive group.<\/p>\n<p>We have five members; me, plus:<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_cuqb5e50RbA\/SWF1jGSM3rI\/AAAAAAAABCE\/twbjJiNvKlo\/s1600-h\/SOB-BAG.png\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_cuqb5e50RbA\/SWF1jGSM3rI\/AAAAAAAABCE\/twbjJiNvKlo\/s320\/SOB-BAG.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/rickmahn.com\/\"><b>Rick Mahn<\/b><\/a> <br \/>Social Media and The Enterprise, Personal Branding, IT Infrastructure<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sheilascarborough.com\/\">Sheila Scarborough<\/a><\/b><br \/>Writer, Web 2.0 Tools workshops <\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/successcreeations.com\/\">Chris Cree<\/a><\/b><br \/>Blogging and Social Media, Online Marketing<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/toddrjordan.com\/thebroadbrush\">Todd Jordan<\/a><\/b><br \/>Social Media\/Networking, IT Programming <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So we are an interesting group, with some commonalities and some differences.<\/p>\n<p>In our first discussions, we set a scope and mission for the board.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>&#8220;Focus on helping each other grow our biz by providing honest and open feedback and advice.&#8221;<\/b>\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We didn&#8217;t try to polish this up too much; just to set down our thoughts. Our bullet list of our purpose was: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advise<\/li>\n<li>Encourage<\/li>\n<li>Review<\/li>\n<li>Idea Farm<\/li>\n<li>Biz Plan Critique<\/li>\n<li>Integrity in business ethics<\/li>\n<li>Feedback and Advice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each month, we meet via <a href=\"http:\/\/skype.com\/\"><b>Skype<\/b><\/a>, voice only. I think video would be too distracting, as we try to focus on person at a time. We talk about what&#8217;s going on in the last month, and where we are headed. We check our accountability items from the last month, and add new ones in a shared <b><a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/\">Google Doc<\/a><\/b>. <\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve met since June 2008. We&#8217;ve bounced around ideas, gained perspective, and been reminded to think big picture. Sometimes, we don&#8217;t like the advice we&#8217;re given, but we always seem to benefit from it. Sometimes we share a breakthrough.
